"Effects Of Collagen In The Skin"
Collagen information and skin care
Collagen is a natural protein that makes up about 25% of the body. Is mainly found in tendons, muscles, skin, hair, eye, heart… It provides structure to the body and support and connects organs to the skeleton. Collagen is mainly composed of amino acids (the building blocks of proteins) and is the main protein in connective tissue.
In an easy way to understand collagen is the glue that holds the body together and is responsible for skin's elasticity. There are many different types of collagen such as type I, type II, type III… which are responsible for various functions in the body. Type I is the most abundant type of collagen in the body and skin, making up to 75% of the dermis (underneath the epidermis).
As we get older collagen production diminish and the skin start to show signs of aging such as
lip wrinkles
and sagging skin. The skin losses elasticity and its capacity to retain moisture. The skin becomes dryer and
fine lines and wrinkles
will be deeper.
Collagen Information
There are not natural sources of collagen but some studies suggest that taking a collagen supplement may help to improve several body functions and aging skin. Vitamin c and collagen go hand in hand, as
Vitamin c
is necessary to stimulate natural collagen production. Without it the production of collagen stops. Eating foods rich in vitamin c is essential, but because is easily expel from the body, destroy by light and in the process of cooking, sometimes taking a vitamin c supplement will be necessary, especially if you are a smoker, or a heavy drinker. If in any doubt always consult with your doctor.
