What Is Microdermabrasion?
Peeling Skin Treatment
What are the benefits of microdermabrasion? This skin rejuvenation treatment is very popular. Skin microdermabrasion is a non invasive procedure and depending on the system used and the intensity the results will vary.
This skin enhancer, is a superficial treatment, in which a device attached to a machine "sandblast" the skin with tiny aluminium oxide cristals. This process exfoliate the dead cells of the skin. Then, these cells are vacuum to remove them from the skin's surface.
The theory behind is that this peel skin treatment stimulates collagen production, thickening the skin and improving skin appearance.
Micro Dermabrasion Uses
It is normally used for:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Sun damage
- Uneven pigmentation
- Acne scars, see
acne scar skin care
- Stretch marks
- Enlarged pores
The treatment usually takes up to 45 minutes and more treatments are recommended for best results (a series of six treatments, once a week). This procedure can be quite painful and you are going to feel a stinging sensation that depending on the intensity of the device can go from moderate to strong.
Your face will be red for a while and even more if you skin is sensitive. You must wear
sunscreen
with high SPF every day, to protect your skin after this skin rejuvenation treatment.
Does microdermabrasion remove blackheads?
This peeling skin treatment won't make any difference to blackheads and pigmentation. The best treatments to clear blackheads are
skin lasers
such as IPL. This laser will also get rid of birthmarks and pigmentation.
Other effective method are
skin peels
or chemical peels such as glycolic acid. Topical treatments that you could try to remove blackheads are retinoids such as vitamin A and alpha hydroxy acids.
You could also try a facial at the beauty salon where extractions are performed by a professional, but be aware that this is only temporary as blackheads will form again.
Is This Procedure Effective?
I once had a series of crystal clear treatments and although my skin looked better, I didn't have the improvement I was looking for. For that reason is very important to match your expectations with the results the treatment is offering.
Personally I think it works better for acne scars but no that good for getting rid of wrinkles. Choosing a good qualified physician that will understand what you want to achieve is essential. Ask to see photos of people that have had this peeling skin treatment.
